Let's review each episode of the TV show The Venture Bros, the greatest adult animated series ever made!

In VIVA Los Muertos Doctor Venture finally shatters the barrier between life and death and resurrects one of the Monarch's dead henchmen. Which gets the attention of a group of meddling adults, who have some work to do now. The beginning is brilliant, watching a raid on the Venture compound through the first-person view of a new recruit to the Monarch's forces. Who's just as quickly and brutally disposed of as the rest of the strike team, only to suddenly be resurrected in Doctor Venture's latest experiment and turned into a very Boris Karloff-esque Frankenstein, who Rusty of course names Venturestein. I was kind of hoping they'd keep this first person view throughout the episode, where most of it is shown through the eyes of the reincarnated creature, but no, they drop it after a couple scenes. Instead focusing on Venture now trying to figure out if brainless sweatshop labor or suicide bomber is the best way to profit off the monstrosity. While a bored Brock decides to attend Doctor Orpheus' DMT ceremony, where all the attendees drink from a psychotropic plant and ride the high, revealing their greatest dreams and secret feelings. Which seems to have an added effect on Brock, who has a particularly trippy trip involving dolphins and his former commanding officer, the now Ms. Gathers. Yeah, this is another laid back episode, where we mostly just follow characters doing their own things, but it's a REALLY good example. In fact, it's the best since Eeney Meeney Miney Magic. Unlike the last few we've had where it just felt like the actors were told to improvise something, what these characters say and do feel like what these characters WOULD say or do, expanding on their individual personalities and how they view the same situation. Like Hank and Dean geeking out that they have their own resurrected monster guy, which is ironic concerning who they are, while Venture sees dollar signs in the living dead, and Brock actually starts to feel guilty for all the people he's killed in his life. Plus, of course, Doctor Orpheus being the entertainingly theatrical self we love him for. And we even get a little bit of the monster's viewpoint, who was either a horndog or didn't get enough in life, as getting laid is the only thing still retained in his damaged mind. Each of these subplots gave me something to enjoy. Especially the Scooby-Doo one. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. This episode contains expys of the Scooby Gang, where, in typical fashion, they arrive at the compound on a dark, stormy night, and just decide to poke around and find a mystery to solve. Except these guys are a lot older and more unstable than their colorful counterparts, which, again, is understandable if this has been their entire lives. Originally, I thought that was the joke, they were depicted this way just for the sake of the usually mean Scooby Doo parody. But later I learned they're actually amalgamations between the Scooby gang and some of history's most notorious criminals. Fred is the charismatic rapist and murderer Ted Bundy, Daphne is Patty Hearst, who had been abducted by and joined a terrorist group, Velma is the misandrist writer Valarie Solanas who tried to assassinate Andy Warhol, and Shaggy and Scooby are serial killer David Berkowitz and the dog who told him to shoot people. I can tell the writer had a blast marrying these two personas to each character, AND figuring out how the personalities would interact. Most fanfiction writers can only DREAM of achieving this level of crossover! And yes, they're just as fun to watch as everyone else. Especially when they come across Hank and Dean, who it turns out they killed an incarnation of a few years back, so now the mystery's become a hunt to eradicate the evil clones. Chasing Hank and Dean into a certain room where the boys get the biggest existential crisis of their lives. Before they're saved and Venturestein goes with Brock to see some ladies. What else can I say? This is one of the best episodes of the series, and arguably its most famous. Yeah, it's mostly filler, but VERY entertaining filler. I'd say watch it, but in all likelihood, this is what introduced you to the show in the first place. And how does this one-off episode pull off edgy and adult Scooby-Doo better than the entirety of Velma?
