Let's take a look through DC Comics' theoretical universe following the young adult adventures of Superman & Batman Junior!

Nearly two decades after their last hurrah, the Super Sons were brought back for one final adventure in the Elseworlds anthology story Superman Junior is No More. As Clark and Bruce save the driver of a crashed semi truck, Clark declares that he's had it with the hero business. Due to being half Kryptonian, he only has half his father's powers, thus he'll never be more than a weaker imitation of Superman. Bruce tries to talk him out of it, but Clark is convinced Superman will be around forever and nobody needs a younger version. Later, Superman reenacts the nuclear missile scene from Superman 4, but this time, the cluster explodes, seemingly being enough to even kill him. The Earth mourns his passing, with Clark of course sorry for all the things he said. Later in Antarctica, a sudden fissure swallows an expedition team, before closing up again. A rescue is soon sent, Bruce landing on the frozen surface to find the team. But when he's about to give up, Clark bursts out of the ground, showing that he's also searching for the expedition. But even with their combined might, it seems hopeless, until Clark suddenly detects a heat signature, and finally unearths the team. Unfortunately, he arrived too late to save one of the members, but Bruce still congratulates him on finding the body. Clark reveals that he realized with Superman gone, he was heir to a legacy, one that he had the responsibility to uphold and that nobody else could fill. Which is music to Superman's ears, as he arrives with Batman, explaining that he faked his death so Clark could learn some responsibility. And that it was all Bruce's idea to get his head back in the game. Clark is overjoyed that his father is alive, especially since he's not ready to take full responsibility, and Superman says he'll handle the big stuff for a while yet. Thus both father son pairs fly off happily. This is ok. Allegedly, this is in continuity with the other Super Sons stories, which if true, it feels like a prequel. Especially since Clark and Bruce look younger than how they were drawn before. As for the plot, it's short and simple. Clark doesn't want to be Superman, Superman seemingly dies for the billionth time, Clark recognizes now he has to take responsibility, and Superman comes back revealing he passed the test. Though technically he just undermined it, as now Clark isn't going to feel as obligated to perform his super duties. In fact, Superman just confirmed that, as Clark said, he'll basically be around forever. I forgive its short length since it's part of an anthology, but as a continuation to the Super Sons saga, it just feels unnecessary. Though I guess gives the heroes a happier sendoff than their original finale. And that is the final appearance of the original Super Sons. Except for a quick cameo in the Kingdom miniseries.
