Hello everyone once again to another car commercial, or shall I say "SUV" commercial of the past! In today's commercial, we have the 1987 Toyota 4Runner featured. The 4Runner was a SUV built by Toyota, on the Toyota Pickup truck platform of the same generation. Lets get into specifications about the vehicle shall we?
The base engine for the 4Runner was a 2.4 Liter, carbureted Inline Four Cylinder engine that produced 103 horsepower, at 4800 RPM with 133 LB-FT of Torque at 2800 RPM. There were 2 more engine choices available,with better horsepower but retained the same engine displacement as the base Toyota 4Runner engine at 2.4 Liters and the same RPM. The engines were; A 116 Horsepower, Inline 4 cylinder that produced 116 Horsepower at 140 LB-FT of Torque at 2800 RPM, and the strongest engine of the group was a 135 Horsepower Inline 4 cylinder engine that produced 173 LB-FT of torque at 2800 RPM. In 1987, a 3.0 Liter V6 was offered and that engine outputted 150 Horsepower with 180LB-FT of torque at 4,800 RPM. 4Runner's had a standard 4 wheel drive system.
A 5 speed manual transmission was standard on all Toyota 4Runner's, where as a 4 speed automatic was optional. Average fuel mileage with the 5 speed manual was a good 21 MPG City, and 26 MPG highway and 20 MPG city and 23 MPG highway with the Automatic.
Three trim levels were offered for the Toyota 4Runner. The standard Base trim level, the more "luxurious" Deluxe trim level and the more sport oriented trim level the SR5.
The base body style for the Toyota 4Runner was a 2 door model, and an optional 4 door body style that was more opted by buyers. On the 2 door model however, there was a removable back bed that made the Toyota 4Runner look like a pickup truck when removed.
If you wanted a dependable, Japanese SUV that was well off on its on road, as well as off road capabilities, with Toyota quality, then the 1987 Toyota 4Runner was the vehicle for you.
