This was my first assignment for university last year. Viking Village is a free asset for the Unity 5 engine, and our task was to write a music track without much limitation other than obviously it had to fit the scene and it had to be more ambient in nature rather than having a busy track that could distract from the hypothetical gameplay. Another limitation was that we had to write this from Unity's showcase video rather than being able to wander around the map ourselves.
Suits me. I've been doing that from the start - I didn't have access to what became TNT: Revilution MAP12 when I wrote Ionian Isolation 6 years ago (ugh).
After that we then had load up the map in Unity and implement our music tracks and make sure of things like good filesize compression, seamless looping, etc. I separated out the ambience track from the music and had that as a placed object with a radius, so it got quieter the further you went from the shore. I didn't really put much thought into the ambience, if I were doing it now I'd also add some subtle waves to go with the generic wind/noise.
I was really happy with how the track itself turned out though, even though I didn't really intend for it to be as melancholic as it ended up being. The problem: I didn't record any of the instrument parts in this one, and while I was happy with the piece, it fell into my lecturer's trap of stuff sounding too much like MIDI (in this case the robotically precise playing would have given it away), so I got a decent grade, but I can't deny I was disappointed. It's all good though, because ultimately it just raises my own standards, and so far it's still the lowest grade I got from him.
I considered going over the piece to address those issues for this upload, but decided to just leave it as it was instead, with just some very small mixing tweaks.

Hopefully 2 weeks, but I'm still working on my current assignments and this piece is particularly nuts so it will be quite challenging. I *really* want to upload the Eviternity MAP30 music on the week of its anniversary though...
