From the Raven MIDI Pack for Heretic, used on E3M5: The Ophidian Lair.

When the "Shadow of the Serpent Riders" expansion for Heretic was released in 1996, it brought the game's level count to nearly 50, yet the soundtrack consisted of only 20 or so tracks. To remedy this, Jimmy has brought us together once again to fill in the blanks and give each Heretic level its own soundtrack.
The Raven MIDI Pack took less time than any of our previous ventures, with a start to finish time of about four months. The twist with this pack compared to our previous ventures is that we had to emulate the style of original Heretic composer Kevin Schilder to the best of our ability. This meant lots of synth strings, timpani, and tritones :)
For this track, the first one I made for the pack, I mainly drew inspiration from the E1M1 track, with its thundering timpani and dark but powerful atmosphere, complimenting the fantasy action style of Heretic and its gameplay.
I went on to do another four tracks for the Raven MIDI Pack, one of which was a collaboration, so this will be the focus of the channel for next couple of months after a shortage of material to post over the summer :)
