This is 'Earthglow,' the second track from my 2021 EP, 'Voyager.'
I wanted each track on the EP to be very distinct from the others, in a way that you could choose a single word to describe each of them, and essentially the tracks were written based on these words. Hyperspace Highway was written for 'fast,' and for the second track, I went for 'bright.' I think it feels quite different to a lot of my work, and it's part of a very small group within my music in that I opted for a major key here rather than minor, to achieve that brighter sound.
Being primarily a bassist, I've been trying to push the bass to have bigger roles in my compositions lately. Although the keyboards and melodic guitars are present as ever, to me this track is very much the bass' moment on the EP; easily the toughest of the 5 for bass, it has the main solo section, and the lick around 2:48 was probably the hardest thing to record out of any instrument on the entire EP. I practiced my ass off for that one bit and still think with a bit more time it could have been improved further (the take in the video, filmed this week, was pretty good!)
