A light-hearted orchestral piece that I originally wrote for Halloween 2016. The original release of Skeleton's Waltz was pretty popular, and it sits among the favourites of quite a few people!
But as I said at the time, I was never really happy with the original version. With so much stuff going on and with the software I had at the time, there was only so much I could do, which was very little due to the fact that so many things at once was pushing my poor laptop to the limit, I couldn't actually hear what I was doing because of constant CPU overloads.
Now for this remake, I've made an effort to do a full orchestration for this piece. Although some get less parts than others, I believe every member of the orchestra has something to do here at some point. This recording matches the MIDI in that it uses a marimba to carry those main "skeleton" melodies rather than the xylophone, which I don't think works as well as a lead part. The xylophone is present in places though, now used to support the marimba in louder parts where its lighter tone cuts through a bit better. The same relationship is true for the celesta and glockenspiel.
The solo stringed instrument is a violin in the MIDI, and may have been in the last recording - here it's a viola that takes the spotlight - the thing is, those melodies go right down to the very bottom of the violin's range, and they don't sound so good down there, whilst violas still sound quite rich.
Damn, I'm so pleased with how this has turned out. The next step of course is to get a live orchestra to play it :3
