On January 17, 2025. A Deputy from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that was registered to an individual with a suspended license. The suspect vehicle accelerated and the deputy observed multiple items being tossed out the window. The suspect vehicle passed a semi in a no passing zone before pulling over shortly later.
A high risk traffic stop was conducted and officers ordered the driver (Barry) out of the vehicle. He initially refused but eventually exited with his hands raised. Barry was searched and secured in a squad car as other deputies gave commands for the passengers to exit the vehicle. Both passengers complied and were later identified as Kevin and Ashlyn. They were secured in separate squad cars and questioned. A vape was located on Kevin, which he admitted was a THC vape.
All 3 occupants appeared very nervous and had prior criminal history. Kevin explained that he did not have his ID on him but provided officers with his real name and date of birth. He was breather heavy and stated that he was “ A little freaked out”.
Inside the vehicle, officers located:
0.3 grams of a white powdery substance white later tested positive for cocaine
0.5 grams of a green leafy substance which later tested positive for THC
2 glass “crack pipes” with “burnt residue” inside
1 smoking pipe with “burnt residue” inside
1 grinder with marijuana flakes inside
3 water bongs
1 bullet casing with cocaine residue inside
multiple miscellaneous drug paraphernalia items
Ashlyn admitted to possessing the water bongs but denied knowing about the crack pipes. When asked who was throwing stuff out of the window, Kevin said it was Barry, but was not sure what it was. Kevin also denied knowing anything about the crack pipes and said he was just smoking weed. When asked if he smokes crack, Kevin stated he has a past with it but was not currently using it.
The deputy informed Barry that one of his passengers stated that he was the one throwing stuff out of the window. Barry denied doing it and stated that all of the drugs in the vehicle were Kevins and Ashlyns. All 3 were transported to the Walworth County Jail and released to jail staff without incident.
The driver was found guilty for vehicle operator flee/elude an officer and operating without a valid license. He was sentenced to 5 months in jail, 3 years of probation, and was ordered to pay $2,624 in fines. The male passenger, Kevin was found guilty for possession of THC and was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine. The female passenger, Ashlyn was found guilty for 2nd offence possession of cocaine. She spent 47 days in jail and was sentenced to 2 years of probation and ordered to pay $1,850 in fines.
