When it comes to connectivity, the GameSir X5S is incredibly versatile. It boasts a tri-mode connection system, meaning it can be used via a standard USB-C wired connection, a dedicated 2.4 GHz wireless dongle, or via Bluetooth.

But how does it actually play? We put it to the test across a variety of different games and platforms:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: I recently used my MIG Switch dumper to legally back up and dump my own personal copy of Breath of the Wild, and testing it out here was a blast. The analog sticks feel incredibly smooth and precise while exploring Hyrule.
Comix Zone: Jumping into some classic retro action, we fired up the native Google Play Store version of Comix Zone. The D-pad and face buttons are highly responsive, and the game plays absolutely flawlessly.
Sonic the Hedgehog: To finish things off, we blasted through some high-speed Sonic levels. The button presses feel fantastic, offering that perfect tactile snap you want for quick platforming.
From an ergonomic standpoint, the X5S is a massive win. I actually really appreciate the slightly smaller, more compact size of this grip compared to some of the massive, bulky alternatives on the market. It feels incredibly natural in the hands during long play sessions. And because it utilizes a versatile Bluetooth connection, this isn't just a phone grip—I can actually use it as a wireless controller for my original Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, or even the new Switch 2!
If there is one minor bummer or caveat to point out, it has to do with how the power delivery works when playing wirelessly. Because it uses Bluetooth to connect to your device in that mode rather than plugging directly into your phone's USB-C port (like some older mobile grips), the X5S does have to be charged entirely separately. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it is definitely something to keep in mind if you hate managing multiple charging cables.
