While we were out attending the incredible 2026 Illinois Game Con, we received an epic, completely unexpected package from our good friend Robert over at Retro Fighters. He didn't even give me a heads-up about what was coming, but let me tell you, this is pretty darn cool. This is a piece of hardware I have actually been eagerly waiting on since I first saw the initial prototypes and teasers online. Introducing the brand new Battle Dock for the Nintendo Switch 2! This revolutionary accessory is specifically designed to let you seamlessly integrate classic gaming into the modern era by giving you actual, physical GameCube controller ports right on the front face of your new Switch 2 system. Come on in, get comfortable, and let me give you a close-up look at what makes this the ultimate accessory for the next generation of Nintendo gaming.
Taking a look at the hardware, it beautifully mimics the overall aesthetic, feel, and design of the original Nintendo GameCube front panel. It instantly transports you back to the golden age of local multiplayer gaming. But Retro Fighters didn't just stop at one standard look; they have gone above and beyond to give us incredible customization out of the box. The Battle Dock includes an array of stunning interchangeable faceplates in the following classic colors: Platinum Silver, Indigo, Spice Orange, and Jet Black. Right out of the box, the Battle Dock comes with the sleek Jet Black faceplate pre-installed. Then you can easily swap to the Platinum Silver, which looks really, really good and matches beautifully with modern setups. Of course, you get the legendary Indigo, which is probably what most retro gamers are instantly familiar with. And finally, my absolute personal favorite and the one that I will exclusively be using: Spice Orange! Because let's be honest, Spice Orange has always been, and will always be, the absolute best color in the Nintendo lineup.
Changing these faceplates is super simple and satisfying. The entire faceplate system is held on securely by magnets. (Magnets... how do they work? Please let me know in the comments if you get that classic reference!). You just pull it off to reveal the naked dock beneath, and then simply snap your color of choice right onto the front. It slides perfectly into place with a satisfying click. Drop your Switch 2 right into the dock, and you are entirely good to go. This thing looks completely fantastic sitting on an entertainment center.
