🛠️ Design & Build Quality
Right out of the box, you get a pretty good overall look at the controller itself. It features a really nice, clean, basic design that prioritizes functional ergonomics over flashy gimmicks. It sits exceptionally well in the hands, feeling perfectly balanced without that hollow, cheap plastic feel you often get with budget accessories. I absolutely love the feel of the bumpers, and the triggers have a very smooth, consistent pull to them.
One of the standout design choices is the inclusion of a dedicated charging dock! For a controller at this price point, that is virtually unheard of. I really like how well the dock and the controller itself tend to mate with each other. It takes the guesswork out of plugging in USB-C cables in the dark and makes for a fantastic display piece on your gaming desk or entertainment center.
🕹️ The Hall Effect Advantage
Perhaps the biggest selling point of the ECHTPower controller is what lies underneath the thumbsticks. These are actually Hall Effect sensors on the analog sticks! If you aren't familiar, Hall Effect sticks use magnetic fields to register movement instead of physical contact parts. This means there is no physical wear and tear inside the joystick module, completely eliminating the dreaded "stick drift" that has plagued modern gaming controllers for the last decade. The sticks feel incredibly smooth and responsive during gameplay.
⚙️ Customization & Connectivity
ECHTPower didn't skimp on the customizable features either. You can easily adjust the intensity of the vibration motors using the dedicated "M" button in combination with the Left analog stick. Good rumble is essential for immersion, and being able to tune it on the fly is a great touch. You can also adjust the built-in LED lights through that exact same button combination, allowing you to personalize the aesthetic to match your setup.
⚖️ The Compromises: Switch vs. Switch 2
At least in my initial hands-on tests and gauging how it feels in action, this is actually a pretty nice-feeling controller overall. However, no budget controller is perfect, and we have to talk about the compromises. First, the D-pad feels just a little bit mushy for my taste—it might not be the absolute best choice for precision 2D fighting games.
Secondly, we have to look at this from a Switch versus Switch 2 perspective. This controller does not have the new "C" button found on the official Switch 2 hardware, and it does not have the programmable back pedals/paddles like the official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller 2.
🏆 The Verdict
So Is the ECHTPower Controller the NEW King of Budget Switch Controllers? Here is the reality check: if you don't actively use the C button, and if you don't care about having back buttons for competitive play, this gamepad is a revelation.
