This is going to sound a bit arrogant, but companies reach out to me daily asking me to check out their products. Nine times out of ten, I turn them down because the gear just isn’t very good. However, BOXPSII—a brand I hadn’t heard of before—sent me something that addresses a massive issue I’ve been highly critical of lately. That major flaw is the fact that you simply cannot use your older standard Switch and Switch OLED docks with the new Switch 2. While AverMedia has updated their capture docks to fix this, they are extremely pricey.
Enter the BOXPSII portable dock. For just around $30.99, this incredibly small, compact unit is specifically designed to work flawlessly across all three main console generations: the original Switch, the OLED model, and the highly anticipated Switch 2. Visually, it looks exactly like a sleek power bank. It features a great selection of ports on the side. You get a stunning HDMI 4K output port for gorgeous TV gaming, a USB 3.0 port, a standard USB 2.0 port, and a USB-C 100W Max power input port.
One crucial detail to remember is that this dock does not include a power supply in the box. I highly recommend sticking with your official Nintendo OEM power adapter to ensure absolute safety and optimal charging while playing. The build quality feels incredibly solid, complete with rubberized feet on the bottom for stability and a neat flip-out connector. I tested it first with my launch day Switch OLED, and it dropped right on perfectly. It feels very secure and looks really nice on a desk or TV stand.
Next, I tested it with the Nintendo Switch 2. I initially had a protective case on my Switch 2, but unfortunately, the dock will not accommodate the console with a case installed. After pulling the case off, the console dropped right onto the USB-C connector. I plugged in the OEM power supply, connected the HDMI to my TV, and boom—it worked beautifully! The picture quality was fantastic, and it output smoothly directly to the screen with zero lag or visual artifacting. For the price, this is a phenomenal deal.
Finding high-quality, budget-friendly accessories for the Nintendo Switch ecosystem has always been a challenge, especially with new hardware. The Nintendo Switch 2 brings incredible new performance capabilities, but the backwards incompatibility with older docks frustrates many fans. When you travel or attend conventions, lugging around the bulky official Nintendo dock is a hassle. The BOXPSII dock solves this completely by slipping right into a backpack. Whether you are playing classic Mario titles, Zelda, or the latest releases on your Switch 2, maintaining a 4K connection to your TV is essential. The added USB ports also allow you to connect Pro Controllers easily.
I still want to know how is this only $31?!? At a price point of $30.99, the amount of money you save compared to buying a second official OEM Nintendo dock or an expensive AverMedia capture dock is staggering. You can buy this BOXPSII dock and still have enough money left over to pick up a new physical game. Third-party docks used to be notoriously risky during the early days of the original Switch, often causing console bricking issues.
