Are you excited to take advantage of the brand new Xbox Disc to Digital program? Microsoft just launched this highly anticipated feature into the Alpha and Beta testing phases today, allowing gamers to finally convert their existing physical Xbox discs into digital copies. I was incredibly hyped to test this out, but unfortunately, I am currently locked out of the initial wave. That's right, XBOX Disc to Digital Is Here! But I Can't Access It Yet, Its All MY FAULT! Why? Because I am an Omega tester in the Xbox Insider Program, and that means I have to wait my turn.
Let me break down exactly what happened, because this is entirely on me and not Microsoft's fault. The Xbox Disc to Digital program is currently in its early beta phase. I did not realize that because I haven't been as active in the Xbox preview ecosystem recently, my account tier isn't high enough for day-one experimental features. The Xbox Insider Program is divided into multiple rings: Alpha Skip-Ahead, Alpha, Beta, Delta, and finally Omega. Alpha and Beta testers received their access today. Since I just recently signed up to get back into the swing of things, I was placed into the Omega tier. That basically means Microsoft will grant me access much closer to the official public release.
Even though I am completely bummed out that I don't have access right now, I am using this time to prepare my console. I have my Xbox One S set up and I have been actively cleaning out my digital storage, deleting games I no longer play, and clearing space for this massive shift in how we handle physical media. Now, I am adding specific physical games back onto the hard drive so that the moment I gain full access to the Disc to Digital conversion tool, my library will be primed and ready to digitally unlock.
One of the games I am most excited to test with this new feature is Resident Evil 2. Believe it or not, I don't think I have ever actually played through this specific version. By transitioning my physical copy into a digital license, I plan to experience it fully enhanced on my Xbox Series S. I am really looking forward to seeing how the hardware upscales the experience with faster load times, Quick Resume compatibility, better enhanced visuals, and superior audio fidelity. The convenience of not having to swap discs while bouncing between different titles on the Series S is going to be an absolute game changer for my setup.
