In this video, I take a look at Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus, now available for the first time ever on Blu-ray in a gorgeous Deluxe Steelbook Edition. Produced for German television in 1972, these two rarely seen specials capture the Python team at the height of their creative powers, featuring classic sketches reimagined in German alongside unique material created exclusively for these broadcasts. Beautifully restored and overseen by Terry Gilliam, this long-awaited release is one of the most fascinating additions to any Monty Python collection.

Originally produced for West German broadcaster WDR, Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus consists of two unique television specials filmed in 1972.
The first episode saw Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin perform many of their famous sketches almost entirely in German—a language none of them spoke fluently. For the second special, the group filmed in English before the programme was dubbed into German for broadcast. The result is one of the strangest and most fascinating chapters in Monty Python history.
Alongside familiar favourites such as The Ministry of Silly Walks, viewers will discover alternate versions of classic sketches, completely original material, and plenty of the surreal humour that made Monty Python legendary. Seeing the troupe perform in this unusual setting gives even long-time fans something genuinely fresh to experience.
