Eureka Entertainment has revealed its October 2026 Blu-ray releases, and appropriately for Halloween month, things are getting strange, spooky and supernatural.
In this video, I take a look at all three new releases arriving on 19 October 2026: the atmospheric 1958 gothic chiller The Screaming Skull, the five-film Beneath the Trees: Folktales at DEFA 2 Limited Collector’s Edition, and Ghouls Gone Wild, bringing together three wonderfully bizarre examples of the 1980s Hong Kong horror boom.
We’ve got haunted houses, sinister fairy tales, witches, ghosts, jiangshi, supernatural martial arts and even Chow Yun-fat thrown into the mix.
It’s an incredibly eclectic October line-up—but which releases are actually worth adding to the collection?

🎬 The Screaming Skull
Adapted from the short story by Francis Marion Crawford, the film follows newlywed Jenni as she moves into her husband’s secluded country mansion following the mysterious death of his first wife.
It isn’t long before strange events begin to suggest that the dead may not have completely left the estate.

🌲 Beneath the Trees: Folktales at DEFA 2
Following Eureka’s previous exploration of DEFA’s Märchenfilme, this Masters of Cinema Limited Collector’s Edition brings together five more fantastical productions from East Germany’s legendary state-operated DEFA studio:
The Tinderbox
Snow White
Snow White and Rose Red
The Frog King
The Robe
These aren’t necessarily the sanitised fairy tales modern audiences might expect.
Drawing on stories associated with Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm, the films embrace witches, enchanted animals, magical kingdoms, monstrous creatures and the strange dreamlike imagery that makes DEFA’s approach to folklore so distinctive.
For anyone who picked up Eureka’s earlier DEFA fairy-tale collection, this looks like another fascinating journey into one of the strangest corners of European fantasy cinema.

👻 Ghouls Gone Wild
Finally, things get considerably more chaotic with Ghouls Gone Wild.
This two-disc Eureka Classics collection dives into the explosion of Hong Kong and Taiwanese horror cinema during the 1980s, bringing together three films making their UK Blu-ray debuts:
Scared Stiff
The Haunted Cop Shop
Magic of Spell
Following the success of films such as Encounter of the Spooky Kind and Mr Vampire, Hong Kong filmmakers created their own wonderfully unpredictable blend of horror, comedy, martial arts, fantasy and supernatural mythology.
