Released in 2006, Taxidermia tells the story of three generations of Hungarian men whose lives reflect the country's turbulent twentieth-century history.
Beginning during the Second World War, moving through Communist Hungary, and ending in the modern era, each chapter explores a different obsession while pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling. The result is a film that is grotesque, hilarious, tragic, and strangely beautiful all at once.
Although its reputation is built on extreme imagery and body horror, Taxidermia is far more than a shock film. Beneath the surface lies a thoughtful examination of family, politics, ambition, and the lengths people will go to leave their mark on the world.
