In this video, I review the new Limited Edition 4K UHD release of Speed Racer (2008), the visually spectacular live-action adaptation from Lana and Lilly Wachowski.
When it was first released, Speed Racer struggled at the box office and divided critics. Over the years, however, it has undergone a major critical reappraisal and developed a passionate cult following. Today, many fans consider it one of the most ambitious and visually unique blockbusters of the 21st century.
For me, this is simply a film I love. It's colourful, emotional, wildly inventive, and unlike anything else Hollywood has ever produced. Now it's finally arrived on 4K UHD with a stunning presentation that many reviewers are calling reference quality.

📖 About the Film
Released in 2008, Speed Racer stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, Rain, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
Based on the classic anime and manga created by Tatsuo Yoshida, the film follows Speed Racer as he battles corporate corruption within professional racing while trying to honour the values of family, integrity, and fair competition.
Rather than adapting the source material realistically, the Wachowskis embraced the colourful, exaggerated style of the original animation, creating a film that feels like a live-action cartoon brought to life.
While audiences initially weren't ready for its unique visual approach, the film has gradually become one of the most beloved cult blockbusters of the modern era.
