You don’t want clickbait for your Catholic nonprofit. So what’s the classy way to get organic video views?
You need a thumbnail, title, and description that speaks to your audience. Think of the person that should watch this video, then write a video title that speaks to one of their driving motivations. Instead of “Intro to St. Joseph’s Church,” try “Find your home at St. Joseph’s Church.”
Craft a short, 3-5 sentence video description that fleshes out this idea and add 3-5 hashtags. Make sure to include key info like your city, denomination and mission.
Then, take a screenshot of a compelling frame from your video. Again, look for something that will speak to your audience - if you think they are searching for community, grab a shot of people smiling and talking together. Use a photo editing program to layer your title in bold text over this image. Upload this as your thumbnail image, which is the first thing your viewer will see and determines whether they will click, or not.
Bonus tip – the first 8 seconds of your video are critical. If you don’t have their attention in 8 seconds, they won’t watch it. Instead of “I’m Joe Smith and I’m the president of XYZ Ministries,” try a phrase like “Are you ready to make a concrete change in your community?”
