Thirty-six percent of Catholics in the United States identify as Hispanic. That’s over one third - and the number is rising. Here are 3 ways to make sure your video project is reaching this critical audience.

First option, the least effective, is to make sure your video has Spanish subtitles. That’s the words at the bottom of the screen. Absolutely make sure these translations are made, or at least checked, by a human. Auto-generated translations make for disastrous misunderstandings.

Second option, make a video that includes Latinos. Now, don’t fabricate here, but record real ways that Latinos are engaging with your mission. Better yet, include interviews conducted in Spanish and mix them with the English interviews, adding subtitles in each language.

Third option, make parallel videos for English- and Spanish-speaking viewers. These would be on the same topic, but include interviews in each language – ultimately forming two distinct and culturally-relevant stories. This allows you to take advantage of targeting options to make sure that each viewer sees the video in his or her own language.
