I try to put down a foundation of ink, not wanting to rush to a splatty doom, which appears to be happening to squidmates. Instead, I pick my time, and drop down to miss a splat, then get hit with a Point Sensor that takes away all the mystique of what I'm going to do. The pinklings, almost inevitably, score. I try to help limit the clams hitting our basket, which amounts to chasing back the Range Blaster and splatting them, before trying to forge a path forwards. That lets me catch the Splattershot Jr rather unkindly, but at least it lets my squidmates juggle a couple of power clams forwards. One breaks the barrier, and my blind Trizooka blasting splats one pinkling from under the basket, opening the way for us to quickly steal the lead and put us in a strong position early on.

I return to be by myself, so stop for a moment. That lets me see the pink Carbon Roller come my way, and I squish them. I shouldn't laugh. I follow-up by catching the Mini Splatling from the side, and the Range Blaster before they get away. I'm keen to find the final pinkling, but they sensibly disappear from near our basket, a squidmate catching them anyway before too long. Our defence holds. We can try to attack again, but running in to a firing Mini Splatling doesn't get me far, and we're pushed back as a team as a whole.

The pinkling push goes nowhere, splats stopping them early, and we're back on the attack. I'm lobbing Burst Bombs and dodging them in return, as a Power Clam gets closer to the pink basket. I'm splatted by the Mini Splatling again, and the attacks stalls soon after, leaving me alone again. I wait for squidmates to return, super-jumping to me, and watch what happens. The Splattershot Jr comes my way, so I splat them, and when looking for more pinklings to splat I accidentally make a Power Clam. Can I make it to the pink basket? Somehow, yes I can. Breaking the barrier doesn't help our score, but at least it prevents the pinklings from scoring.

The pinklings aren't giving up, of course. They press again. I get a quick splat on the Carbon Roller, and circle back to catch the Mini Splatling right next to me, just before a Wave Breaker tickles my feet. It's a shame, as the pinklings still around not only score, but dunk a second power clam. It's not enough to take the lead, but the battle has got much closer. With squidmates getting splatted I sit back in defence, which has my accidentally picking up the pity power clam. I toss that away, hoping something will come of it, but doesn't, as the stand-off near our basket continues. That's broken by a Hammer pounding towards us, which not even my Trizooka can stop.

We're weakened, and not helped by my trying to squish the Carbon Roller again, and the just as the pinklings break our barrier again they complete a Wipeout. Of course, they take the lead and extend it healthily, as our desperate defence tries to recover. We splat the pinklings, but at what cost? Less than ten seconds to go, and our lead is gone. We need a Power Clam, which I'm not finding, and I can't even splat the Mini Splatling, but I do push them back. A squidmate has a power clam too, so we go in to overtime. Just as with the pinklings, a Hammer opens up the turf under the basket. The first Power Clam hits the basket, then a second, just after a regular clam. The points are tied. Barely as I land, my squidmates find the final clam we need and toss it in, to secure a shaky-looking victory. Woomy!
