About this ship -

The Strider and its brethren are a series of bomber R-Types.

Pros
- the red weapon is certainly competent and effective when you're aiming straight ahead.
- the blue weapon is fast and fires at 45 degree angles from the top and bottom of the Force.
- the yellow weapon fires straight ahead and drops artillery on passing enemies.
- the Defensive Force fires in a tightly X shaped pattern when detached.
- the Barrier Wave Cannon is just that - it will block a few bullets and projectiles before being destroyed or timing out.

Cons
- the blue weapon only fires from the top and bottom of the Force, leaving you with your machine guns for anything straight ahead.
- the Barrier Wave Cannon is extremely short range.
- the ship's graphic does not match up with its hitbox.

About this stage -

Metropolis Quietus is a city stage with some cool cinematography - you can see that your ship spends time flying upside down at angles to the ground.

The boss is relatively easy with simple patterns that are easy to dodge. I didn't have a ship with a long rang Wave Cannon so I had to fire with my standard weapons until it was destroyed.

My thoughts on this ship and stage -

The Strider really found its footing in R-Type Tactics when it became a bomber ship armed with the Balmung Missile. It was remarkably easy to pair it with a POW-Armor so you could continually rearm your missiles and also have the Midnight Eye scout outside the Bydo's search range and blast the enemy to kingdom come.

R-Type Final 2 carried on with the Strider series able to use the Balmung missile - the blast is gigantic and bright, and it's easy to lose sight of bullets and enemies, so it has its drawbacks, but is still one of the best missile types.

As for the stage itself, R-Type Final 2 had an homage stage of Metropolis Quietus that is quite a bit more challenging, especially the boss, that not only fires its laser at you, but has hands that come towards you from behind. A big step up in difficulty from the static spikes that are in the original game.
