Here's another 9 Star quest versus the Nu Udra. I've fought this thing so many times it's ridiculous. I usually wear its armor set because it has high fire defense, and I hate being set on fire.
My character is modeled after Susannah Dean from "The Dark Tower" series by Stephen King.
The Lance is a slow weapon when you have it out and is highly defensive. That said, you can be high aggressive and get right in the monster's face because your shield can tank so much damage - relevant because dodging around is difficult, and hopping is generally used for quick steps to get closer to the monster rather getting out of the way - letting you deal tons of damage while your teammates have no choice but to roll and dive out of the way of the monster's attacks. The Lance sheathes slowly too, so unless you're wearing the Quick Sheathe Talisman, you're going to be mostly tanking hits, because it's too slow to sheathe and run away.
Nu Udra, like a lot of the big monsters, has a "stand up and fall down" on you move that you can easily i-frame through with the Lance's parry counterattack. You just have to be mindful of when to use it. It will do this attack twice in a row, so getting the first parry and then immediately setting up a second is key to keep attacking.
The most dangerous attack is easily when Nu Udra is on fire and charges up, flailing around its arms, and throwing fireballs everywhere. I can't usually tank every hit, so I just mitigate what damage I can and then call for my Seikret to get me out of there when I get knocked down.
Fun fact - my first recording went south as I got stuck up against a wall where I couldn't really see what I was doing and the Nu Udra did its flailing fireball attack once, killed me - my Palico revived me - and then it did it again near immediately and made me faint for real, so I started the whole battle over. It was only 7 1/2 minutes lost, so I didn't care that much. It happens.
