About this ship -
The Principalities is a fire based R-Type named for a group of angels in the biblical hierarchy.
Pros
- the red and blue weapons are super powerful, especially the blue weapon when fully powered up.
- the Wave Cannon shoots a stream of fire at the enemies, putting it in the same class as the Shooting Star, where you have to keep the blast focused - but it looks super cool.
- the Fire Force fires the same as a Standard Force when detached.
Cons
- the yellow weapon is a curving fire stream that goes above or below the ship depending on which side the Force is attached, making it very situational to the point that it's outclassed by both other weapons.
- you have to keep the Wave Cannon focused to deal maximum damage.
- the ship can only use ground based missiles like the Scatter and Depth Bombs.
About this stage -
Dimension 26 is a warp way to Bydo space. Destroying the blue prongs on the boss will take you to 6.1 and F-B. Destroying the red prongs will take you to 6.2 and F-C. Destroying no prongs will send you to 6.0 and F-A, but it's difficult to get there unless you use a ship with a powerful Wave Cannon that can take out Fine Motion in one shot.
When you see the Missile power up, don't destroy the battleship below you that you fly over and then under. If you do, a Gains robot will spawn, only a lot of popcorn Bydo spawn from the corners of the screen too. It's much safer to destroy the guns on the battleship and then leave it alone to avoid that happening.
Fine Motion did something that in all my years of playing I have never seen until today, and I got it in this recording - ordinarily it does its laser barrage with the shell above and below you, but this time the shell was angled and the lasers came in a way that I was not expecting. Again - I have never seen this particular attack and I'm glad that I survived and got it in the recording. Also - I'm glad I got to do the laser dance like a cool guy.
In R-Type Tactics -
The Principalities is a beast with fast movement speed and a Wave Cannon that can incinerate the opposition - firing in a way that keeps it out of the way of most retaliatory blasts. One of the best ships in the game and it carried me pretty far in my first playthrough.
Personal note -
I'd been practicing this stage with the Principalities for days before I set in to record. I'd done it a few times in practicing but the recording? I always have nerves when recording, so it took me several attempts to get this one.
