This was a decent playthrough after just shy of a week of practice.
Stage 1 - 0:18
Stage 2 - 6:54
Stage 3 - 14:47
Stage 4 - 22:10
Stage 5 - 30:40
Stage 6 - 38:37
Stage 7 - 44:17
Ending, Credits, and True Ending - 45:59
- You get graded on your Hit Rate, number of deaths, and continues used. Destructible objects and specific enemies increase your Hit Rate. Each death costs 2% of your grade. A Continue costs 10%. You can select Retry at the cost of a Continue to restart a stage and try to improve your grade.
- In this Contra game, you have three weapons and their charge abilities. The Machine Gun with its gun pod, Fire Whip with its charged beam that pierces walls and enemies, and the Grenade Launcher with its homing missiles. You don't need to worry about weapon power ups in this game, which I love.
- One thing that I don't like about C:SS is the RNG that comes into play sometimes. Lance's pinball attack is an example of randomness killing the player, and I don't like that at all.
- The music in this game is awesome, as befits its shmup/run n gun status. My favorites are the part where the player enters the tunnel on their bike while they chase the train, the tense music when you start the fight with the Seabed boss, and all of stage 6's music.
- My PS2 has trouble loading disks at times, and you'll notice on the loading screen for stage 1 just how fast the NOW LOADING text is moving. I had to get up and open the PS2 Slim's disk cover and close it to force it to read. Fortunately that was the only time it happened. I sped that part up to 5x speed to move things along.
- This is my favorite Contra game of all time. I used to play it with my girlfriend in 2004 and some of the tactics I use are actually hers.
- You can see that I started with 7 Lives and 6 Continues - you earn permanent extra lives from solo play and permanent Continues from co-op play.
Thanks for watching!! I had a good time practicing this game and making a new video for it. I hope you enjoyed it.
