This video is part of a much larger playlist that encompasses the Ship Showcase. This is the forty third video that I recorded.
Ships in this series: Arrowhead, Delta, Ladylove, Wave Master
This is the classic R-Type from the original game, so you know what it's armed with. The red laser is a criss cross of red and blue beams that fire directly ahead. The blue laser fires from the front and at 45 degree angles from the top and bottom of the Force. The yellow laser fires beams that crawl along the floor and ceiling. The Bits are Round Bits and will fire while the red weapon is equipped. Missiles are standard Homing Missiles, good for all occasions. The Wave Cannon is a two loop charged shot that deals hefty damage to anything caught in the narrow blast. The Force behaves in the standard pattern when detached and fires a spray of bullets in four directions.
This stage is an homage to R-Type Delta's stage 6. It's an overrun space base in which you encounter the Bydo infected R-Type that escapes from stage 4, Corrosion, which is also present in R-Type Final 2. The boss is a mechanical version of Dobkeratops, stuck to the wall of the base. The patterns are different than R-Type Delta, and memorizing where the shots are coming from in the second phase is key. I tried to working my way into the safe spot under its mouth and above the head on its chest, but I couldn't pull it off.
In my opinion, this was the hardest stage in R-Type Delta, but the safe spots in that game made the boss a cake walk. It's hard as hell without using it. The checkpoint in the hallway of doom was outrageous if you died, so I usually resorted to using the Delta weapon to clear it out. I'm glad that the boss here has the Organic Bydo music, as the other two homage stages from Delta had the Mechanical theme. The Organic version is one of my favorites from R-Type overall.
I tried this stage repeatedly on R-Typer, but the bullets in the boss's second phase come out too fast, and while I had safe spots memorized from playing on Bydo, the beams it shoots out that fire the bullets also come out faster, making getting into position MUCH more difficult. I beat this stage on Bydo, but while recording, I kept failing on the last phase of the boss, so I finally said screw it, and played it on Normal. I feel like Normal is beneath me, but I really just wanted to get the stage recorded, so I'm going with it. Sorry about that.
