This is my ultimate victory over R-Type Final 2. I'm going to take a break from the game, and as I've done so much for the Ship Showcase, this might be my final video for it. But never say never.
About this ship - this is one of the Ultimate R-Types, allowing you to customize everything about it - Force, Bits, Missiles, Wave Cannon - everything. It has no weaknesses.
When you play as any other ship in stage Z7.1, you fight the R99 Last Dancer. If you play as the R99, you fight the iconic R9 Arrowhead. It mirrors the fight from R-Type Final's stage F-B.
About the stage - this is a recreation of Summer Night, stage F-B from R-Type Final, where you've become a Bydo ship and have to fight different R-Types and Meltcraft.
The enemies in this stage are Meltcraft, some with Forces that will detach and crash into you when you destroy them. The various R-Types are Concertmasters, Wisemen, Andromalius, Sleipnir, and some Sea Tigers near the end. By FAR the most lethal of these enemies are the Wiseman ships, because their Wave Cannon shot can follow you around the screen, putting you in a bad position. That's why I always take them out first.
Some things about the Arrowhead -
- It will fire machine guns and missiles at you. The missiles are by FAR the most dangerous part of the fight, as they home in on you.
- The R9 will steal your Force after the initial encounter, using the ship's classic weapons against you. These are not too hard to dodge.
- One of the most dangerous things is when the R9 throws its Force across the screen, because you have to be careful of the bullet spray. I got lucky at the part where it throws the Force to the left side of the screen - cheaply enough, it fires a single bullet spray behind it - the part where I got lucky was not being in the bottom right of the screen - seriously - that was just luck at that part. I knew it was coming, and I still got lucky. Be careful.
- Most of the time you can hug the bottom left corner to stay safe and shoot the missiles that come at you. The R9's Wave Cannon will fly over your ship's cockpit. The Devil Wave Cannon is great here because it will home in on the R9, letting you focus on dodging.
I had been practicing this stage for DAYS, knowing I could get it eventually on R-Typer 3 difficulty. My first success was the morning of recording, and when the R9 blew up, I said "I got it?" and then proceed to flip out and cheer. So then I thought "I'm gonna take a break and do this tomorrow." After that I immediately started the stage again and got the recording that you see here.
