This is my least favorite ship in the game, but I recorded it first because in my previous recording, I used Stage Select on the original PlayStation version. I wanted to do a full No Miss game with this ship. It is highly capable as the game is balanced around the ship selection, unlike its successor, R-Type Final.
Pros
- the lightning wave cannon homes in on enemies, making it very efficient at clearing out popcorn enemies and for keeping you out of tight spots, as you can position yourself out of harm's way and blast anything on screen.
- the red weapon is a continuous laser beam and is very strong. The yellow weapon works like a windshield wiper and sweeps from bottom to top, dealing decent damage, although it is slow.
- the Anchor Force will stick to enemies and deal continuous damage. While firing, the chain will twist around and deal more damage. The chain also damages enemies.
Cons
- the wave cannon is not as powerful as the concentrated blast from the R9.
- the blue weapon is a pair of homing beams that fire horizontally from the Force, but the homing capability is very limited. Take care while using it.
- the Anchor Force doesn't shoot while detached.
I was never good enough at Delta to finish the game on Bydo/Hard, so I chose Human/Normal again because I wanted the game to be manageable for my skill level, as well as being fun. I practiced with the R13 from the Steam release on November 20th, 2025 and it took me a long time to remember where all of the enemies came from as well as strategize with this ship. I had been recording from December 6th, 2025, and I'd frequently fail at the final boss. I played Practice Mode over and over and did it perfectly, but the stress and performance anxiety that comes with recording would lead me to make stupid errors, wasting half an hour, but at least this game isn't as long as Final, hehe.
