I'll admit that I was playing this stage for fun and I decided to record it for one reason - the music at the beginning is cool.
About this ship -
Pros
- The red weapon is a continuous laser which means you can pile on the damage without stopping.
- The yellow laser is a windshield wiper of death for popcorn enemies - and even tough enemies if you get close to the them and let the entire sweep hit them.
- The Force attaches to enemies and doesn't let go with a major drawback.
- The Wave Cannon is a homing lightning bolt, so you can generally fire and forget - just remember to get in proximity to the enemy you want it to hit before you move away.
Cons
- The blue weapon is powerful, but takes time to split into multiple beams.
- The Force will turn into a Bydo monster if attached to an enemy too long. You can time it by watching the chain changing colors. When it transforms, it will float around and bite, and you have no control over it until it turns back into a Force.
- The Force does not shoot when detached.
- The Wave Cannon is not super powerful as a trade off for how destructive it is.
The stage -
I'm assuming this stage came from R-Type Tactics II's Bydo campaign. You're up against all manner of R-Series ships, most of which are just flying in formation to their battleship. The King's Mind is dangerous because it comes on screen with all of its phantoms present, so take it out fast before they all shoot their Wave Cannons at you. The No Chaser ships try to fly into you and need to be destroyed before they get too close. The Herakles ships will shoot their six way missiles at you, which can be blocked by your Force, but take care as they can home in on you from different angles. Watch out for the R-Type's Forces!! When you destroy the ships, the Force will detach, and they are still lethal to your ship.
The Hyllos transformer is the boss, but the Neoptolemos (the green ones) float around in front of the control panel. You can weave between them if you've got guts, and I did that on R-Typer difficulty, but on R-Typer 3 I practiced and wanted to show what happens the longer you let the fight go on. Eventually the Herakles ships will show up firing their missiles and swinging their melee weapons, followed by No Chasers that will try to fly into you - seriously? What's up with that? I let the Shadow Bits protect me from the missiles while I was firing at the control panel with my Force on the back of the Charon.
I love the ending of this stage where you chase the battleship down and have to destroy its bridge - the music makes the scene, and you don't get the cheery music for finishing the stage when you do it, fading into silence. I don't like destroying R-Type ships, but I really like this stage overall.
Also - I got a discord call while I was recording the stage and fortunately the Game Bar didn't record that. It was my real life friend, and you can see his Steam message near the end of the video in the corner.
