This video is part of a larger series that encompasses the Ship Showcase playlist. This is the fifty fifth and final video that I'm doing for this playlist.
Ships in this series: Daedalus, Valkyrie, Garuda, Songoku, Kaguya
This ship is part of a set from irem's Image Fight. The red weapon fires an AoE gravity bomb that deals damage over time briefly. The blue weapon fires homing missiles that are pretty remarkable. The yellow weapon drops missiles above and below the Force, and they crawl along the ground and ceiling. The Songoku can use Yellow and Red Pods. The Yellow Pods don't fire, but according to the R-Type Wiki, deal more damage when they ram enemies. I went with the Red Pods for the extra firepower, despite the Pod bullets not being as powerful as the ship's machine guns. Missiles are standard Homing Missiles, good for all occasions. The Force fires the standard four bullet pattern when detached and behaves in the standard way. The Wave Cannon is a standard two loop charge that fires straight ahead.
This stage is rough, but I love the music here. Relying on your Force to kill the turret rings is key to survival. The boss is Mabosterbern, and is a Bydo brain surrounded by vessel like tendrils. The best way to kill it is to throw your Force and it and overwhelm its protective barriers and then the core with bullets - clearly this only works with Forces that shoot. I don't know what you would do with a non shooting Force on R-Typer and above. I had a hard time with this boss for the longest time. If you screw around too much, it starts spinning all over the screen, putting you at huge risk of being hit by the tendrils. This stage, to me, is one of the most Bydo of all.
When you see me pass through the final three turret rings, you'll note that I didn't play it safe, and rushed into the third turret before it was completely dead - I kept inexplicably blowing up while waiting for the path to open up when the ring wall would get too close to me - glitch? I don't know, so I pushed ahead recklessly and got it.
