French is a Romance language that evolved from the Vulgar Latin spoken in the Roman Empire, specifically from Gallo-Romance in Northern Gaul. It is closely related to other langues d'oïl spoken in northern France and southern Belgium. French has become an official language in 27 countries and is widely spoken across about 50 countries and territories.
Saintongeais is a dialect of Poitevin–Saintongeais spoken along the western coast of France, mainly in the former provinces of Saintonge, Aunis, and Angoumois, now part of Charente, Charente-Maritime, parts of Gironde, and one town in Dordogne. Although it shares many words across the Charente departments, differences exist in meaning or pronunciation. Saintongeais, a langue d'oïl variety, has notably influenced the Acadian French spoken in Canada and the Cajun French of the United States, along with Gascon, a langue d'oc variety.
This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
