Ancient North Arabian Language:
Ancient North Arabian (ANA) is a group of closely related Northwest Semitic dialects spoken by various nomadic and sedentary groups in the Arabian Peninsula before the rise of Classical Arabic. These languages, primarily known through inscriptions, are divided into several scripts such as Safaitic, Thamudic, and Hismaic. While ANA shares similarities with early Arabic, it is distinct and existed alongside it before Arabic became dominant. Written primarily on rock surfaces and monuments, ANA inscriptions provide insights into the daily life, religious practices, and social structures of the people who used these dialects.
Ancient North Arabian People:
The people who spoke Ancient North Arabian belonged to various tribal groups spread across the Arabian Peninsula, including the Safaitic, Thamudic, and Lihyanite peoples. These groups were largely nomadic, though some had settled in oases and engaged in agriculture and trade. They lived in the harsh desert environment, relying on camels for transportation and survival. The tribal nature of their society meant that kinship ties were central, and they often migrated in search of resources.
