Hello! My name is Andy. How are you?
Let's talk about the Tai Ya language.

The Tai Ya language is classified as a branch of the Southwestern Tai languages and is predominantly spoken by the Tai Ya people. Phonologically, the Tai Ya language is similar to Tainua in Taykhong (Dehong), meaning they can be classified in the Northwestern branch of the Southwestern Tai languages. However, their tones are more similar to Tailue in Sipsawngpanna or Mueangyawng. The language is mainly spoken in areas of Yunnan Province, particularly in Honghe Prefecture and Yuxi City. The Tai Ya people, like other Southwestern Tai people, live in valley flats on both sides of the Red River, often near rivers or lakes.

Historically, the Tai Ya have been geographically concentrated in regions with rich river systems, relying on river water for irrigation and seasonal crops, and living primarily in agricultural settings. There is a close cultural and linguistic connection with other minority groups in the same area, particularly the Tai Khao and Tai Sai. The Tai Ya people have long-standing traditional beliefs, including the worship of spirits, trees, and nature, and they follow ancient rituals tied to their agrarian lifestyle. Unlike other members of the Southwestern Tai family, however, most Tai Ya people do not believe in Theravada Buddhism. This is why they are called Tai Ya (people who were not enlightened by the Buddha).

This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
