Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.

Spoken in Provence and parts of Drôme and Gard in southeast France by around 200,000 people. Historically, Provençal referred to the entire Occitan language, but now it specifically refers to the variety spoken in Provence. It should not be confused with Franco-Provençal (Arpetan), spoken in parts of Italy, France, and Switzerland. Provençal was used by troubadours and in literature from the 11th century. It was also used in legal, administrative, and court documents from the 13th century. Its official use declined in the 16th century, and it was replaced by French after the French Revolution in the late 18th century.

Franco-Provençal is a Gallo-Romance language originally spoken in parts of France, Switzerland, and Italy. It is distinct from neighboring Romance dialects but related to them. The language has several dialects, including Savoyard, spoken in areas of the historical Duchy of Savoy in France and Switzerland. The number of Franco-Provençal speakers has been declining, and it is classified as "nearly extinct" by Ethnologue and considered endangered by UNESCO. Today, Savoyard has about 35,000 speakers.

This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
