ILoveLanguages! | RHAETO-ROMANCE: ROMANSH, LADIN, FRIULIAN @ilovelanguages0124 | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Rhaeto-Romance is a proposed subfamily of Romance languages spoken in southeastern Switzerland and northeastern Italy, named after the former Roman province of Raetia. Italian linguist Graziadio Ascoli, in 1873, observed similarities among these languages, suggesting they form a linguistic group. They differ from Italian in their evolution from Latin, including stages with phonemic vowel length, specific consonant changes, and possibly the development of central rounded vowels (now lost). If valid, this group would include Romansh (Switzerland), and Ladin and Friulian (Italy), with a total of about 660,000 speakers, most of whom speak Friulian.
This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
