Proto-Austronesian (PAN) is the reconstructed common ancestor of the Austronesian languages, a large language family spread across Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of mainland Asia and Madagascar. Spoken around 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, PAN is believed to have originated in Taiwan, from which early Austronesian speakers migrated. The language gave rise to many daughter languages as the Austronesian peoples expanded, leading to the development of various branches, such as Malayo-Polynesian, Formosan, and others. PAN is reconstructed based on shared vocabulary, phonological, and grammatical features found across Austronesian languages today. Understanding PAN provides insight into the migration patterns and cultural exchanges of ancient Austronesian societies.

Indonesian, the official and national language of Indonesia, is a standardized variety of Malay and has long served as a lingua franca in the multilingual Indonesian archipelago. Indonesia, the fourth most populous country globally, has over 279 million people, the majority of whom speak Indonesian, making it one of the world's most widely spoken languages.

The Lord's Prayer (Proto-Austronesian Reconstruction)

1. T-amámi i laŋíc
"Our Father in heaven"
T-amámi – T- (inclusive plural prefix) + Amá (father)
i – locative particle
laŋíc – sky, heaven

2. Babáw naŋ ŋájanmu
"Hallowed be Your name"
Babáw – high, hallowed (babáw "above, high")
naŋ – genitive marker
ŋájanmu – your name (ŋájan "name" + -mu possessive suffix)

3. Um-áRi si banúwa naŋmu
"Your kingdom come"
Um-áRi – to come (um-áRi "come")
si banúwa naŋmu – your kingdom (banúwa "inhabited land, kingdom" + naŋmu "your")

4. Iqa-límamu si daʀéq ka laŋíc
"Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven"
Iqa-límamu – your will (iqa "hand, will" + limámu "your hand/your will")
si daʀéq – on earth (daʀéq "earth")
ka laŋíc – as in heaven (laŋíc "sky/heaven")

5. Búlami si káen naŋ qálejaw qálejaw
"Give us this day our daily bread"
Búlami – give to us (búla "give" + -mi exclusive plural)
si káen – food, bread (káen "food, to eat")
naŋ qálejaw qálejaw – daily (qálejaw "day", repeated for "daily")

6. Bukás kami naŋ útangmi, ka kami bukás si útang naŋmu
"Forgive us our debts, as we forgive those who have debts against us"
Bukás – forgive, release (bukas "release, forgive")
kami – us
naŋ útangmi – our debts (útang "debt" + mi possessive suffix "our")
ka kami bukás si útang naŋmu – as we forgive those who have debts against us (ka "as" + kami "we" + bukás "forgive" + si "those" + utang "debts" + naŋmu "your")

7. Ka íni qumuNáh kami si úlaw
"And lead us not into temptation"
Ka – and
íni – not (negative marker)
qumuNáh – lead, go first (qumuNáh "lead, to go first")
kami – us
si úlaw – into temptation (úlaw "confusion, temptation")

8. Ka bukás kami si kúya
"But deliver us from evil"
Ka – but
bukás – deliver, release (bukas "release")
kami – us
si kúya – from evil (kúya "bad, evil")
