Castilian Spanish refers to the standard variety of the Spanish language, often associated with the dialect spoken in the Castile region of Spain. Historically, the dialect that evolved into standard Spanish originated in the speech of medieval Burgos and surrounding areas and evolved into what is now recognized as standard Spanish, used in formal writing and speech. While "Castilian" is sometimes used interchangeably with "Spanish," it can also specifically refer to the regional variety spoken in Castile. The term is more commonly used in Spain to distinguish the official language from other regional languages, such as Catalan or Galician.
Andalusian Spanish is a regional variety spoken in southern Spain, characterized by distinct phonetic features such as seseo and ceceo, the dropping of final consonants, and the aspirated "s" (pronounced like a soft "h"). Vowel reduction also contributes to its faster and fluid rhythm. These linguistic traits distinguish it from standard Castilian Spanish and have influenced many Latin American Spanish dialects due to historical migration from Andalusia. This regional variety remains an important part of Spain's linguistic diversity.
