A bit different cast of player this time around, and i think this might be Guiarne's first trip around this block. This "tunnel" USA config can be tricky to handle, since expansion routes are so limited!
Funny as this sounds, i wasn't that mad at 17 showing up so early. By killing the chances of a monster plant drop on turn 2, it made it much easier for me to build 2 cities with my 03. Have learned the hard way that players are way too likely to attack you if you only build 1 city in green here! Granted, i ended up attacked anyway, but only in a very weak manner - very strange starting build from Guiarne. Also note my building a 3rd city earlier than usual - plays like this are often necessary when someone else starts next to you in a cheap area.
Jon looked good early with the 20 compared to our much weaker plants, but Komo also did well with 27 at cost to go with their 10. Meanwhile i had to settle for the 24 with $5 trash, usually not a good sign.
The key to this game was Komo paying over $45 for both the 25 and the 26. Usually that's not a good play since your base capacity is a bit shaky for Step 3, but it paid off big here since trash & uranium were more competitive than normal. Even though i got the 31 at cost, the trash market just got too rough for me once Jon bought the 30. i also made a huge mistake keeping both 24 & 38 instead of replacing 24, though that may not have mattered. That 27 drop probably did more than anything to win this game for Komo - very well done from a player who wasn't on my radar!
