Welcome to the channel, dougie! He actually started playing this game because of these videos, which warms my heart. He's learning fairly quickly.
This one started out pretty well for me, though i should've built in the area daroj did. Underestimated how difficult it would be for a third player to reach the south on this config, making you virtually impossible to block. My bids for 15 & 29 were immediately followed by bad drops, but daroj wisely triggered Step 2 before i could build my money back up after 29.
The market just went wild on the first couple turns of Step 2, and i made the mistake of trying too hard to drive up 34 for daroj. Should've stopped around $40 or so since i knew the market would have tons of other 5-6 cap plants available. These plants all went real cheap since it was early in the game and nobody had money. Daroj's early 16 & 10 combo made more money than i expected - powering 5 cities vs. others powering 3 or 4 is strong even if you're not doing it that efficiently!
Ultimately that early money lead was what made it an easy win for daroj. Lots of open space for builds, decent enough plants to start with, and cheap endgame plants...can't beat that. Had i taken a 6-cap plant instead of 34 i would've been in a much better position, but even then i surely lose on money. Built wrong and bid 34 wrong, alas. Very clean game for daroj here!
