Another 4-player game with almost all the same players as the previous one, swapping Stein out for teokop and France out for Germany.
This game really shows the value of having a large amount of open space for Step 2. Starting with the 05 i chose Magdeburg as my city since it's impossible to counter as a single build, but now realize i would've been better off in Wurzburg. This is because the first couple cities from there are cheaper than Magdeburg's, you don't corner yourself nearly as much, and you have the fallback option of the purple region if you get blocked in Step 2. It's also not an enticing place for someone else to build next to you, since purple is so expensive - the last player should go into brown.
This game showcases a great performance from Selasphorus, even better than in his previous win on here. He got sandwiched with only 4 cities in Step 1 and had to run 10 + 09 for a long time. Had thought he'd be screwed, but his turn-order advantage paid off when he landed 18 then 29 at cost. That hyper-efficient setup plus him building first in Step 2 set him up extremely well to close it out, and his money advantage got him to the end with the classic 4-6-7 plant setup.
On paper i had the best plants during the mid-game, with 25/24/13, but the problem was my builds getting blocked in Step 2. Got stuck with an awkward number of cities that forced me to run the 24 each turn but not even get full value for it, much less my green plant. In retrospect i should have given up on the 25 past $40 since that was obviously going to happen.
