More hot 5er action!
Kremmen got a stupidly good build for going last with the 10, but kept getting stuck at the top of the turn order & missing out on big plants after winning the 25. ACL & sorfeyshin are less experienced players and did some things that reflected that - buying plants when they didn't need to, and not fighting hard enough for the big plants.
Meanwhile, amitss & i kept waiting for good plants and getting bad drops, but we both stayed patient and didn't overbuild. i bought the 18 and gave amitss the 21 at cost out of nowhere, leading me to start Step 2 and move the market. Kremmen shockingly built above me, and that turned out to be huge for me as i landed the 30 at cost. Trash was expensive but that was still a great value. Unfortunately the 2 players behind me landed the 21 & 32 at cost, with amitss getting the 32 and cheap oil...
Thought i was dead after that, but i kept on trying. Bought the 29 so i wouldn't have to run the 30 for a turn, then got the 20 for $21 to get my 15 capacity. What's strange is that amitss didn't bid much for 20 or the 26 on the following turn, when those plants would've gotten him to 15 capacity; he had easily more money than me, but his lack of urgency gave me the opportunity to win with my early capacity.
Notice how much it took for that to be possible, though: fantastic builds and getting all of my plants at cost or close to it! A lot of 5ers are won when the player with all those big plants can't quite end it, so a much wealthier player with 14 capacity ends it and wins. Again, i think there's more depth to 5P than it gets credit for!
