Finally another USA game, with some less often-seen players too!
Very pleased with my start to this one, grabbing 16 & 22 at good prices for one of my favorite Step 1 stall combos. dcholt also did great though, landing the 29 very early for just $30; that's an absolute steal when the other good 4's & 5's haven't shown up yet! The bidding for the endgame-level plants was what really shifted things into holt's favor...i bid over $35 for the 20 because 25 went under the deck already, but the 30 came afterward and holt got that for around $40. In retrospect i should've let 20 go a little before $35 since i didn't need to panic for a big plant yet. The 16/22 combo lets you pick your spots, and that's what i should've done here!
We then entered a long Step 1 stall that holt played perfectly, staying at the bottom of the turn order until he could build to 10 and use his two best plants. The market continued to stall in Step 2 and that gave holt the opening to end the game at 12 capacity. This sort of finish is common in 5-6P games but almost never happens in good 4ers - playing on the cheapest possible USA config helped holt a lot!
