NOTE: We have to deal with a 15-minute BSW server reset in this game, but i spend that time discussing my trip to Orccon and its Power Grid tournaments! No need to skip that. =)
Here's a nice change of pace - a France 6P game! Some veterans don't like 6P on this map since the bottom player is guaranteed to get the 11 at cost on turn 1, but i think that's way overrated; 11 causes you to miss out on big plants for turn 2, and i've almost never seen anyone win with it.
But this game is why i say "almost"! This was unusual in that i landed the 11 in the middle of the auction order, and in a fantastic game for it. With 14/15/18 arriving right away, i wasn't going to miss out on any key endgame plants, and that's normally the problem with 11. Hell, i even landed a sweet starting build for last!
Turn 3 was what really broke the game open for me. After 18 & 22 went for high prices and Amitss was forced to buy 23, i got to bid with Mastaba on the 29. A fantastic plant at that point, i stopped when i wouldn't be able to get to 4 cities with it anymore. The game gave me the 33 at cost, with *exactly* enough money to build to 4! Powering 4 on turn 3 with an endgame plant is just ridiculous. In retrospect i may have actually been a little too greedy in giving up 29 so soon - should bid another time or two.
The turn immediately after that sealed the game for me, as i drove 25 up to a good price for Morph then got the 32 at cost! Oil was cheap, 21 & 26 were nowhere to be seen yet...so strange to me that people would bid for 25 but not 32. With no need to run the 32 until Step 2, that was the perfect spot for me to grab an early 6-cap. All it took was the 24 after that, and this was the easiest 6P win i've ever had!
