Here's a rather strange one that shows the importance of efficiency on Germany!
Was worried early on that JVis's build threw the game to Polar, particularly when Polar also got the 26 early for just $35. JVis actually ended up doing a great job blocking Polar's builds, making smart use of the more expensive connections on this map.
My starting build worked out fairly well, landing 5 cities in Step 1 with the triple build in red. Don't say i don't practice what i preach! Didn't have the greatest choices for plants, getting bid past my ideal level for 27. Bought 07 to attack Polar and hey, it made a profit for the 2 turns i used it! 32 came out right after that to make oil hell, while i paid around $50 for the 25 and actually didn't regret that at all! Coal was insanely cheap and remained so the whole game. Was rapidly closing the gap with Polar, feeling great about my position...
Then Mastaba went up to 11 capacity, and i wasn't in a position to build to 11 myself. My turn order was my most important advantage over the field at this point, so i needed to force Polar to build to 11. They didn't see the situation & also stayed at 9, and Mastaba ended it right there. Polar just didn't think he had the money to do it, so lesson learned.
Looking at everyone's money after the game, i wasn't far behind Polar at all! Think my turn order & efficiency would've made me the favorite had the game lasted longer, oh well...
