Really strong 4er here, on one of our less-featured maps!
Got 15 cheap while mastaba paid almost $20 for the 11. Stein looooooves his triple-Paris start on this map, and that left him with the 10. Made sure not to buy another plant until i could make money from both 15 & 09, while Stein did his usual thing and paid mid-$20s for both 18 & 22. My approach enabled me to win the *35* when that came onto the market early! However...
Early 35 has won almost every game i've been in, but that's probably because the market tends to stall hard after that many big plants arrive early. That did not happen here, and it meant other players got great plants absurdly cheap. You can see Stein discuss this in our little chat after the game - a market stall was not likely because he could build & remove *3* bad plants (06 + 07 + the Step 2 casualty) immediately after i won the 35.
What's interesting is that mastaba paid a lot of money for the 11 & 29 early, yet he ended up really rich. Waiting for a better opportunity than 35 paid off for him! With so many efficient plants being bought early, Stein's green strategy didn't net him nearly as great of a cash advantage as usual. He still made it to 18 cities, but...
...in the end mastaba's early capacity advantage (and an amazing drop in 46 at cost) gave him the win with a rare 19-city finish! Not very often you see the four players finish 19-18-17-16...
One last note: amitss here shows why you don't want to get too greedy in driving up plants for others, or buy too many big early plants in general. He got stuck a couple times with plants that weren't good for him & could never quite catch up in money.
