We welcome another new player to this channel! Not new in terms of experience, but new to my videos. They acquit themselves well in this one too!
This was one of the more interesting 3ers i've played, with a tough early market leading to strong bidding on 11 & even 16. Probably should've paid a bit more for the 11 even though i had the 10 - could get to 4 cities on the turn after that. 18 also went for a nice chunk of change when that showed up in Step 1.
My starting build was a mistake, with Angers being the safer choice if i wanted to build 1. Paris might have been better too, though someone else will build 2 there and make life tough.
Ultimately i was hurt by not paying for any of the decent plants during Step 1 (11 being the one i regret most), but moreso by my builds. Did not expect Selas to build to 7 when he did, and i ended up with only 5 Step 1 cities the whole game. With each city being a $10 swing compared to the player who took it before you, that's a lot i was losing out on. Got great Step 2 builds but that wasn't enough to make up for it.
Did better in the endgame, but still made a mistake: buying extra coal on the 25 when i wasn't going to run it for a turn. That forced me into this weird position of having to buy extra coal for 31 and build, when i would've been better off staying at the bottom of the turn order again.
Remember, kids: the scarcer resources are, the more important turn order becomes!
Oh yeah, and 46 should've been bid higher because it was the only 7-cap in this game and most of the other plants were even worse. 44 made me a ton of money though, so it's tough to say if that would've worked better for me.
The finish is also a first for this channel - won't spoil it!
