After yesterday's rampage Selas is back for more, and this turned out to be one of the best games we've had yet! Does he continue to be the Goldberg of this channel? Well, i won't spoil it here...
This game ended up pretty close all around, with different strategies from everyone. Selas went coal-heavy, Amitss went with early high-capacity plants at low prices, teokop got smaller efficient plants, and i ended up with a more balanced approach. 26/21/13 is one of my favorite sets of plants to carry into Step 3, as it provides solid efficiency and great turn order as long as you don't build past 10.
This game is also a case study in how to use your hybrid plants. Newer players will always use the cheaper resource for a hybrid, but here it was more effective to burn coal with these plants since so many players relied on coal. There's a limit to that, though - once coal drops to the $6-7 range i may switch back to cheap oil.
The final turn was a doozy too, marking a great finish for a great game. The kingmaking rules of BSW (i.e. don't hurt other players if you can't win) meant i probably could have gotten away with Plant 46 for an 18-city finish, but i decided to chance the money battle at 17 cities after making others pay massively for plants that got them to that level. In particular i wanted to make sure that Amitss didn't get a 7-capacity plant since they could then get to 18.
