Welcome to the channel, blake! Here's another longtime veteran of this game with a winrate over 45% - tough game here.
11 was extremely valuable here and i feel lucky to have gotten it as cheap as i did! Also glad nobody else built in Paris, which allowed me to secure the early money lead and land 11. The market was rough after 11, with only 16 & 22 providing some respite. And i was the one who landed 22, forcing blake to buy 24 much earlier than you'd want.
The key decisions of this game involved 25 & 26, as is often the case. Spara outbid me on 26, as i felt my early plants made me enough money that i could wait for a better spot. That was justified when i got 29 for not much more than list price. The same situation happened with 25 later, and i passed it to Spara in the low $40s since they'd already paid so much for 26. This game is a great example of why shelling out for both 25 & 26 rarely wins - lots of money to commit to a lowly 10 base capacity, so you may have to replace one of those plants at the end. Step 3 lets you buy much better plants for cheaper, too.
The endgame was a comedy of errors on the part of everyone besides blake. Since blake had efficient plants in the mid-late game, i was scared they could hit 18 and bid them on 46. Immediately got stuck with it and couldn't reach 18; had i instead bought 39, i would've pulled off 18! Fortunately i stuck Spara with the 50 on the previous turn, and that prevented them from reaching 17. Blake's awful start doomed them, and i escaped with a win that i didn't deserve. Outplaying opponents in the early game gives you that buffer, i guess!
