EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said neutral countries play an important role in European security and defence.
Speaking during the press conference Q&A after the Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers in Druids Glen, County Wicklow, Ireland, Kallas pointed to the role of General Seán Clancy from Cork, who chairs the EU Military Committee.
She said this shows that EU Member States trust people from neutral countries to have a voice in European security and defence.
Asked about the names of members in the new high-level defence group, Kallas said the details would be revealed at the official launch event.
Her answer pushed back against the idea that neutrality means silence. In today’s Europe, even neutral countries are part of the security debate — and their expertise matters.
