An EU Commission spokesperson said the final amount Italy will take under Security Action for Europe — SAFE cannot yet be officially confirmed.
Asked about Italy’s plan and how much of its allocated envelope Rome will use, the spokesperson said bilateral exchanges with the Italian authorities have specifically addressed this point.
The Commission confirmed it has received additional information, but said it will not provide more details until the loan agreement is signed.
The spokesperson also said that SAFE already has leftover funds from signed loan agreements.
If further leftovers emerge from Italy, Hungary or other member states, the Commission will have to launch a second SAFE call.
According to the spokesperson, that second call must be launched this year, as required by the legal deadline under SAFE.
