An EU spokesperson gave a further update on the €90 billion support loan to Ukraine, explaining that future defence production schedules could still include requests for derogations.
The spokesperson said that out of the €28.3 billion foreseen for Ukraine’s defence support this year, the EU has so far approved €22 billion.
That leaves a remaining gap of around €6 billion, which Ukraine will need to fill with additional production schedules.
The Commission stressed that the process is led by Ukraine. It is for Ukrainian authorities to assess the battlefield situation and decide what types of weaponry and military equipment they need.
The spokesperson said it cannot be excluded that, in the coming weeks, Ukraine may submit production schedules requiring derogations.
The statement was part of a broader update on where the EU stands with approvals and disbursements under the €90 billion Ukraine loan package.
